| Invitation to Genetically Modified (GM) Bt Brinjal and Bt Cotton Protest Rally / Meeting on 17th March in Orissa |

Dear Sir/Madam,
Namaskar. This is to inform you that farmers, farmers groups, civil society organisations, intellectuals and academicians, students, members of the media and other concerned citizen of Orissa under the banner of "United Coalition Against Genetic Engineering" (UNCAGE), Orissa, have decided to hold a protest rally against Bt Brinjal and Bt Cotton on the 17th of March (Tuesday). We invite you to participate in this rally which will start from Master Canteen (Bhubaneswar) at 9AM and proceed towards PMG square. It will be followed by a meeting. A delegation will also go to the Governor House to submit a petition. After a simple lunch in the rally site the congregation will disperse at around 2PM.
Considering that a huge international lobby is trying to push in the very controversial food crop Bt Brinjal into India, the likelihood of Bt Brinjal field trials being initiated in Orissa and the attempts to regularise the grossly illegal Bt Cotton cultivation in Orissa, we are sure you will agree that the situation needs a public protest and concerted efforts to thwart attempts to irreversibly poison the food chain.
We would request you to kindly participate in the rally along with your association members friends & colleagues to protest against GM food & crops. Please come and join to strengthen the nationwide protests and the initiatives taken by various groups both within and outside Orissa to create awareness about the various observed and recorded hazards of Genetically Modified (GM) food and crops.
